Wednesday the 2nd

This day was officially the first day that I got to really soak in Liverpool. It's amazing how different things are, and yet how right everything feels. I love it here. Part from how I have almost been hit by the bus seven times. It really is amazing. The metro is very useful to get place to place here. The train station in Liverpool is one of the oldest, it definitely smells old. During our stay in Liverpool, we have had the opportunity to interact with the students from wirral metropolitan college who study in the art department. Schools are run much differently here. Most of the students are middle aged, because in the UK, it's not expected for students to further their education after high school. Students can graduate high school from at age 16. To welcome us, the culinary art students prepared a 3 course meal for us.

For Our stay in Liverpool our first assignment was to make Art books relating to a location or place with the students of Wirral. I've never made book art before, but I was way excited to take it on. I just did not know what I was going to base my book on. That day we we're given a tour of the campus and were shown what resources were available to us in creating our books. In the student warehouse there were some students who were given studio space to aid in the making of their final show. There was one student who's work really caught my eye.

She, an ex makeup artist, was interested in the idea how women are viewed in the society that we live in. And how makeup is not only worn on women, but how it is expected. Each painting is of her applying different types of makeup to her face. I found it interesting.
