Thursday the 10th. Work in Progress

Worked in studio from 10am -5pm on printing press. and stayed up till 4:30am finishing up my book.

Wed 9th

Today we all buckeled down to finish our books. The slavery museum really affected me. More particularly the slave trade. I based my book on the idea of how some parts of history are over looked. I've really learned to love the people of liverpool, more particularly the students that we've been studying with. Sarah, really has touched my heart. Throughout the entire day of our work day she spent the time to assist everyone of us during the screen printing process. She is so humble and modest and all she wanted to do was to serve us and make sure we were getting on alright. Stephen, jay, and sham have been asking about the church. This would be the Forth time they've asked.I've really been impressed by the many good people we have been meeting. It's a bit strange, because I am beginning to see bits and pieces of great people I know back home in the people that I meet here. It will be hard to leave them. They've all really touched my heart.

Monday 7th. Finally some Inspiration

Today was my Day Off. It was also the day that I finally was able to view the slavery museum of Liverpool. The moment I stepped into the structure I was overwhelmed by emotion, though I have been aware of this flaw in history for quite some time I still felt like I was again hearing about it for the first time. Throughout the whole museum testimonials and comments were made about the topic from young, old, black, white, Tan and olive; It's amazing to hear your story being someone else's story for your story is their story and yours theirs. And at that moment I knew exactly what my book would be based on.

Book Demo Days

8:30am Breakfast at the Hostel: 1cup of apple juice, 2 croissants, 1 yogurt, 2 pieces of Bacon, 2 pieces of hashbrowns and British cheddar cheese. Yum. Today was the day we would be starting our books. During our stay in Liverpool, our assignment was to create book art relating to Liverpool and our connection with it to some degree. With that we as well as the students of Liverpool worked together in the making of our books. It's nice to connect with others through art. And to meet people who you feel you've known your whole life.

Wednesday the 2nd

This day was officially the first day that I got to really soak in Liverpool. It's amazing how different things are, and yet how right everything feels. I love it here. Part from how I have almost been hit by the bus seven times. It really is amazing. The metro is very useful to get place to place here. The train station in Liverpool is one of the oldest, it definitely smells old. During our stay in Liverpool, we have had the opportunity to interact with the students from wirral metropolitan college who study in the art department. Schools are run much differently here. Most of the students are middle aged, because in the UK, it's not expected for students to further their education after high school. Students can graduate high school from at age 16. To welcome us, the culinary art students prepared a 3 course meal for us.
For Our stay in Liverpool our first assignment was to make Art books relating to a location or place with the students of Wirral. I've never made book art before, but I was way excited to take it on. I just did not know what I was going to base my book on. That day we we're given a tour of the campus and were shown what resources were available to us in creating our books. In the student warehouse there were some students who were given studio space to aid in the making of their final show. There was one student who's work really caught my eye.
She, an ex makeup artist, was interested in the idea how women are viewed in the society that we live in. And how makeup is not only worn on women, but how it is expected. Each painting is of her applying different types of makeup to her face. I found it interesting.

The Journey's beginnings

Monday April 30th This day was crazy.I was told it is good to arrive at the airport 2 hours early especially if you are traveling outside of the country. So Katie( a friend also going abroad) and I were set to leave for the airport at 2:30. Our seating time was for 4:30 for our 5:00pm flight. everything seemed like it was going smoothly. We had to go pick up Katie's fiance so that he could drive Katie's car back down to Provo. The problem was when we went to go pick him up from his work, Vivint, he couldn't leave because he had to stay on for a call. We waited for about an hour. It was 3:35 when we finally left from Provo to the airport.4-6 is near the time of rush hour, so I really didn't think we would make it, but we did; with plenty of time to spare. I really feel that we were meant to make that flight.
You know when you get on the airplane and you wonder who you might be sitting by. well, I always do. For my first flight to Minneapolis, I sat by this man. He couldn't be more than 27 years old. I could tell he was a talker. Sometimes I'm a talker and sometimes I'm not. And at the moment I sat next to him, I wasn't.I was polite, but I regret not talking to him. When you feel prompted to talk to someone, do it. People are important.
Tuesday MAY 1 My next flight was my final fight. London was my destination. I was seated with my buddies from the study abroad program for the next 8hrs. 9:00am UK time. Once we arrived we stayed in the train station till 9:00pm. It was a pretty interesting experience. I learned that in the train station, it is not free to use the restroom; it's 30 pence(about 50cents). 12am we were off on our journey to Liverpool in on our 2 hour train, but I didn't mind.
